At the peak of the current global outbreak of the SARS COV-2 or COVID-19, India’s second wave of the disease brought together efforts from all medical institutions across the country. The hospitals at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 have been facing an acute shortage of necessary equipment and supplies. This shortage has been contributing to the critical healthcare crisis in India.
Healthcare institutions and professionals constantly have been pooling and sharing their resources to bring the crisis to a halt. Going forward with their motto of quality healthcare for everyone, Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Center (BMCHRC), Jaipur donated 20 oxygen concentrators of 10 litres and 200 oximeters to the State Health Minister, Mr Raghu Sharma on 21st May 2021. This comes after the hospital donated 50 oxygen concentrators to the Rajasthan state government on 12th May 2021.
With the aim to help as many people as possible, this step from BMCHRC has been applauded by eminent personalities all around. Present on the occasion, Mr Raghu Sharma said “It makes us happy to see that despite being a multi-speciality cancer hospital, BMCHRC has set up a special COVID ward with the capacity of 40 beds.”
BMCHRC’s Fight Against COVID-19
BMCHRC’s donation of oxygen supplies and related equipment is part of a long-running chain of special aids that the hospital has been providing since 2020 when the pandemic started. During the first wave of the pandemic, the Vice-Chairperson of BMCHRC, Smt Anila Kothari helped feed more than 70,000 people, provided the needy with dry ration and supplies, and even helped feed animals and cattle.
In continuation of the aid, the chairperson of the KGK Group and BMCHRC, Mr Navrattan Kothari made a donation of 11 lac rupees to the COVID-19 CM Relief Fund. At the beginning of the year 2021, BMCHRC also lent a hand to the government in providing vaccination to healthcare workers of the state.Speaking on the occasion, Smt Anila Kothari said “The major reason behind this aid and donation is to make sure that everyone who is in need of oxygen should get it. We will continue to help the Government of Rajasthan in providing all necessary aids for the treatment of those who have been infected by the Coronavirus. Whenever there is a need for us to step up and provide oxygen concentrators, we will make sure that we make our contribution.”
BMCHRC has provided necessary help to more than 1.75 lakh cancer patients in its history of 23 years. It has been at the forefront of the fight against cancer in Northern India and has been providing free diagnosis, treatments, and medicine to the underprivileged and remote sections of society. Continuing on the path of helping people in need, BMCHRC’s donation of Oxygen concentrators is yet another step that is widely recognised and appreciated.
