Diamonds are especially popular because of the way they shine under light. The way diamonds are structured on the inside, they refract the light and make for a gleaming play of light, only to be picked up by our eyes. As much as the sparkle of a diamond is a characteristic of its composition, the final result that we see is also often brought forth by the way a diamond is shaped. Believe it or not, the play of light in a diamond can be enhanced by cutting the diamond in a certain way.
This also explains why most diamonds you see are cut in very similar shapes and in strict dimensions. In order to make the light enter the diamond at a certain angle, these cuts are designed and studied so that their brilliance (the property of play of light) can be increased and optimised.
This is why certain cuts or shapes of diamonds are particularly popular in the field. But what are these cuts called and why are they done in that specific manner? This blog discusses that in detail.

But since most of these designs go out of vogue, or the current owners do not find them to go with their style and appearance, they look for either modernising it or repurposing it.
